This in-person event will take place at the Fort Worth Public Library – Ella Mae Shamblee starting on Saturday, June 1, 2024 @ 10:30 AM, then will continue on the following dates: Saturdays, June 29, 2024 and July 13, 2024 both @ 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM. Watercolor Painting Class AGENDA

AN INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING IN WATERCOLOR

A class for beginning watercolorists and intermediate watercolorists who want to know more about the proper uses of watercolor.

This is a class full of information, one in which you will want to take notes, but it is also a class about finding your style in watercolor and how to have an enjoyable time doing it.

This will be about the fundamental tools and techniques of painting in watercolor. You will not paint in this class.

We will start off by exploring the types of brushes that are traditionally used in watercolor and how they should be used to gain the greatest effect.

We will discuss the various types of watercolor paper. We will talk about how watercolor paper is made and help you determine which paper might be best for you.

We will explore a range of watercolor colors. We will talk about what color should be on your palette all the time and which ones you might also have available to be able to explore that full range of a well-chosen palette.

We will explore the fundamental techniques of watercolor and how they were used by the best watercolorists down through history. I will then demonstrate each technique and show you how I use them in my paintings.

We will draw a still life by making a transfer copy of my drawing of the still life. You will be painting from a photograph of the still life.

I will demonstrate and discuss, step-by-step, how to paint the still life. I will be available to answer questions and to go from student-to-student to give them individual assistance as they paint the various parts of the still life.

We will explore a range of masking techniques as well as a range of ways to correct mistakes when they happen.

We will not complete the still life in Class No. 2.

I will give you some exercises to do between class No. 2 and class No. 3 and some things you can do to work on your painting. That will be mostly bringing your painting up to the stage that will complete the Class 2 instruction progress.

In this class we will continue to work on the painting, step-by-step. I will demonstrate the next step and you will then paint that step, just like in Class 2.

The goal will not necessarily be to finish the painting. The goal will be to cover all the instruction you need so that you can finish the paintings at home.

If you do finish the painting after the class is over, you can take a photo of your paintings and send it to me by email and I will send you comments about your finished painting.

I will be covering a lot of information very quickly during these three classes. This will require your undivided attention. If you must talk to each other during the class please step outside the classroom so as to not disturb others.
